That's really great! I wish I'd had such a powerful "mad apostate" letter when I decided to leave, years ago - before anyone really used the internet much.
What is this letter? I'd love to see the Mad Apostate Letter.
Best wishes to you!
wooo!!!
guess who called me today.
my mom!

we sent our da letter on 9/10/06.
the first week or so, i lived in fear of the phone ringing or someone knocking on the door, wanting to help us "see reason".
i know they got the letter, because the previous annoying phone calls and uninvited visits from an elder abruptly came to a stop.
You have my congratu-sympathies, ex. You must realize by now that they're too busy working on finding replacements for you and the other one(s), that they have no time to bother with you. Best wishes and good luck in all your endeavors. Hope you find some more loving and caring friends on the outside. hugs and congrats!(?)
mine are all addressed and ready to go.
they're just simple ones with a short verse about happiness during the season and signed by me.
nothing extra.
You just gave me a great idea, and I'm gonna' do it:
You know those charitable dontation-style cards where you get a a card in honor of a loved one . . . where in lieu of a gift for the recipient, you make a charitable donation in their name(s)?
I'm making a silentlambs.org card and sending $5 for each immediate JW family member and sending them a card to "honor their commitment to childrens' welfare."
i'm the early type, i do everything way before hand.. how about you, are you the early type or the late type of person who does everything at the last minute?.
just like the christmas gift exchange on jwd, do some of you wait to the last minute to go buy a gift and send it?.
mine is already sent and received....lmao.
JWD gift exchange? Is that for real? What a nice idea.
I only mailed a gift to my new cousin, but it wasn't really for Xmas; it was a belated "welcome to the world." She's 9 months old, so you can guess how belatedly I'm sending out xmas gifts! (There was actually a question of parentage, so I wasn't informed of the "new arrival until Thanksgiving, which hurt my feelings a bit, 'til I was told the details.
I have to personally deliver my few and meager gifts, so the recipients all must deal with my "stink, stank, stunk," (except for the 2 mail-outs I wrapped last night). Thanks for reminding me!!!
does anyone know anything about this organization.. i am aware that they dont have any religious faith but thats about all.
i have read some quotes of theirs in the newspapers and they seem to be reasonable.. any web links etc?.
thanks..
Are you researching secular humanism or religious humanism? Here is a discussion that distinguishes between the two, but does not define humanism, per se:

If you're interested in publications, the Beacon Press of Boston has a lot of lit in that department. Enjoy your studies, and hopefully you'll be a "convert" soon, if not already.
this is for the us crowd, what state do you live in?
or from?----i live in tennessee, but from ohio and kentucky.
Caroline Du Nords.
well i worked for many years in low paying jobs-fast food, motels, delivering pizzas.
i started working in a law enforcement field nearly 8 years ago, and have been there ever since.
i always was interested in law enforcement and fire/rescue when i lived in kentucky, so i finally entered the corrections field in 1999. it's a decent paying job with benefits galore, i have lots of sick time built up along with lots of vacation time.
Have you checked out the human resources/career advancement pathways in your own current field? Maybe moving up instead of 'throwing the baby out with the bath water' would help?
If you're already employed by the state, city or federal government, you should be able to locate grants and career advancement/training galore; although you might need to consider a new geographic area.
Are there any specialty areas within law enforcement you might consider, elsewhere in your state or city?
well, after years of indecision and inability to settle into any real career, i have finally decided on a viable, meaningful one for me; and it's one that has endless potential (for work, at least).
i am doing research now and will probably take some courses and apply for sbc grants to start my own small-scale recycling business.
i already have a few potential clients in the people for whom i currently work, and will hopefully have references and other clients from them.

Meanwhile, I'll continue plugging away at my current line of work and begin to educate myself in business, environmental science, and management, etc.
I look forward to the challenges and rewards to come. (I'm also sick of my stagnating financial situation) and want to do something that I find meaningful, and recycling is it!
I might as well, since recycling has been like my personal religion for a number of years now; and I'm scandalized by the waste I see daily that could be reduced and/or re-used, rather than being uselessly dumped into city-sized landfills and into the oceans.
I know I will be happier doing something good for the planet that also helps others do what they want, which is the same; only they want someone else to do it for them; and I'm the gal for that job!
if you know of situations where elders or others in authority in congregations molested kids, you may be an important fact witness in ongoing litigation against the watchtower society.. .

Is it okay to copy your post, Kim, and distribute it as a flyer at local KHs?
my story is simple really.. sorry its kida long.
mother was dfd in 1975, during this time we were free to celebrate all holidays.
during this time were were livng overseas, where my grandparents were missionaries.
Welcome to this board. Some of your story is so horrifying it could be made into a black comedy. (Sorry, I'm watching Little Nicky as I respond).
I have a jw mother, a jw aunt, and cousins whose behavior reminds me of your mom's.
I am very sorry to hear of your terrible mistreatment by such a sick mother.
Not all JWs are that sick, but I agree that such sickness abounds within an organization that promotes denial, all around, the way the JW's does.
